I am an international Ph.D student and i am enrolling as a research assistant under my professor NFS grant. i wanted to know is there any way that i can get any kind of financial aid? i leave with my family here and they don't have any income and i need financial help to support them
In my experience, getting financial aid depends on where I have been paid from. For example, at one point my funding came from a grant - therefore it showed up as part of my money recieved from the school. At this point I could not take any additional loans because my 'need' was not great enough compared to the money coming from the school. Currently, I am being paid through private funding and am now able to take out additional student loans. Don't know if this will be helpful for your situation - but maybe you could talk to your schools financial aid department and your boss about maybe switch where your funding comes from.
