I'm on the stage of revising my dissertation and I'm so close to get my degree, but my advisor made me think that I'm not qualified to get this degree, which she contradictorily assured I will get. Due to the horrible design of my graduate program, I didn't get to learn the content that I should and wanted in my field, so right now I have no confidence in my dissertation at all. Part of me want to leave my program without the degree; I don't like academia anyway. But my friends suggested that I hang in there and get that piece of paper. I can't make up my mind. Do you have any thoughts or comments?

I'm an undergrad and thinking about studying cognitive science/ neuroscience. I love neuroscience and I'm thinking of getting PhD in it, but I'm not very sure that I really love it. But I'm sure that I love psychology. Do you think it?s better to give myself chance to study both or it would be a waste of time if I realized that I love neuroscience after a while? Does neuroscience knowledge I get from cog sci will be the same or even near to that got from neuroscience only? I came here because I really need advice from elders especially in neuroscience. Thanks.

I am an international grad student in literature. I 'm about to head to my MA, but I've realized that I really love cognitive neuroscience and I'm thinking of making a shift. I wish anyone can help giving an advice. Do you think I have any opportunity whatsoever? Can I finish MA and do it in PhD after fulfilling prerequisite courses? Or do you think that I need to study for an undergrad program which will take longer time? I'm at a miss for any advice. Thanks.

I am a fairly new PhD student but want to change my school. So I contacted with another school and after their positive attitude I began my application. Should I tell about that to my current advisor or keep it as secret until getting an admission offer? Though my current advisor is nice, we haven't built a close relation yet. Plus I am not funded by him or by the current school. They haven't involved me in any of their teaching/research yet.

I am in the midst of a human rights complaint against my comprehensive exam chair, based on her discriminatory and abusive behavior. She thought she felt entitled to her actions based on my performance on the first comprehensive exam, which I passed, but barely. A faculty member internal to the department failed me, and an external faculty member, an expert in my field, passed me with honors. My comprehensive exam chair gave me time off to "think" about whether I should move forward to the next exam. My department is so uncivilized and wretched, it is beyond words and I do not have any support from my academic advisor. I have until the end of the weekend to decide whether I am going to continue on in this program (due to my rental situation). On one hand, I think I should move forward, being I have 2 years and plenty of money invested, and on the other hand, a part of me is telling me to run for the hills, as they will most likely fail me, regardless. At least I could move on to another institution, if I so desired, with an unblemished record. The problem is that I would probably have to start over (as in most cases in my area), and I do not want to incur more loan debt as I already have a substantial one. I am angry, at a loss, and any feedback would be useful.

Hello, I'm a doctoral student in a bit of an unusual situation and I'm feeling that there may be too many obstacles in the way of finishing my degree. I'm hoping I might be able to get some feedback, a reality check, from others who are in or who have gone through doctoral programs, perhaps facing some similar obstacles.

Can someone check my thesis? It is based on a relflective essay and what we have learned in our class. I believe that my reading and writing have improved by being able to comprehend more quickly when taking note and being able to reflect my comprehension in my work.
